The Complexity Centre Project

My design proposal was to introduce a new experience within the town of Walthamstow that would encourage people to interact with each other and also take advantage of the social facilities provided under one roof. In the EMD cinema there will be a combination of four different activities and social floors that people can accommodate themselves in to experience the new facilities. The ground floor will consist of a cinema with 244 seats that will be innovatively arranged, giving viewers a new perspective, differentiating it from a typical modern day cinema.

The first floor will have an open area in the centre which can allow people at the front of the gym to view the cinema screen whilst performing their workouts. The other side of the same floor will consist of a ‘block room’ that has many features that can make the room convenient and pleasant for reading and socialising. The second floor which is currently the roof will be extended vertically to achieve a larger space for a restaurant and a café with plenty of seating space.

The overall objective of this scheme was to bring vitality back into the town of Walthamstow. These facilities will regenerate the wider area of Walthamstow which will attract many more people looking for new experiences. The main goal is to cherish the rich heritage of this wonderful building whilst also ensuring it can work exceptionally well as a contemporary entertainment and a sociable venue.
